I am the creator of the BeMitt breast self-examination aid, which was born of personal experience. Having had two benign breast lumps removed did nothing to impose upon me the importance of breast self-exam. It simply meant that I now went for mammograms twice a year instead of once and I now saw a breast surgeon two times a year as well. All of that changed when my daughter, at the age of 20, had a plum sized lump removed from her breast. She was told that had she been performing breast self-exam(BSE) on a regular basis, she would have found this lump herself and at a point when it would have been much smaller. Thank goodness hers was benign as well because we all know that had it been cancer, size would have mattered! It was because of my daughter's experience that I set out on my mission to find something that would encourage my daughter and other women to perform regular exams. BeMitt does just that by providing women with the education, technique and resourse to perform a thorough breast self-exam every month. It also serves as our continuous reminder. Now, both of my daughters and I perform our monthly exams using the BeMitt.
