MR Guided Focused Ultrasound, How Does This Improve A Patient's Condition? - Dr. LeBlang (VIDEO)

Dr. LeBlang:

There are two reasons why patients improve clinically after the MR guided Focused Ultrasound procedure. The first reason is that right away we are killing the tissue inside the fibroid. So it’s like taking a grapefruit and scooping out the pulp right away. So the fibroid has a different mass. It has a different consistency to it so patients commonly feel relief of their bloating right away, improvement in their urinary frequency, and their bulk symptoms.

After about three months the fibroid starts to shrink on itself, like a balloon letting out air. So after three months, patients start to see a noticeable improvement in the severity of bleeding during their menstrual cycles. There is less tissue, less functional tissue, and the fibroid shrinks on itself.
