Dr. Gonzalez:

Pregnancy in the morbidly obese is high risk. You have the risk of gestational diabetes, you have the risk of birth defects, small weight babies, neural tube defects, which are brain developmental defects.

So, pregnancy, when you are morbidly obese, is a high-risk situation, and after bariatric surgery and after the weight loss of at least 18 months has expired since your bariatric operation, pregnancy is much safer. There are no risks in regard to diabetes, in regard to birth defects, low weight babies. So, definitely better to wait after the bariatric operation and wait at least 18 months to two years.
