Preoperative selection and discussion of what works, by what mechanism is critical. And sometimes I tell patients, I would say, are not necessarily best, LAP-BAND® can’t do this, even though they may be at somewhat higher risk and so it’s a lesser risk procedure, I present the facts and often they decide to go with operation that has better chance of success.

It’s probably at least 20 percent of patients who have perfect band in a perfect location and adjust perfectly, who actually have very disappointing results in terms of weight loss just because maladaptive eating behavior and food, and poor food choices that they continue to have.

Dr. Andrew Hajduczek was born and raised in Poland where he graduated from The Silesian Medical Academy and finished internship and surgical training (5 years). After immigrating to the United States, he completed internship and the surgical residency program at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA and started in busy private practice in the South Bay area in 1988. The scope of his practice included all aspects of general surgery (including laparoscopic – since 1990) as well as vascular and thoracic surgery. He served as Chief of Surgery in three hospitals (double terms after first being a Vice Chief there).
