How To Boost Energy Throughout the Day

We’ve all been there, sitting at our desk at about 3 p.m. and not able to keep our eyes open. Perhaps it is that time of day where the kids come home from school and you’re even too tired to fix dinner. There are, however, lots of little things you can do each day to keep your energy level on the up and up. For me, I like to get up and do some stretches at about that time. Sometimes, I even get up and take a walk. The natural sunlight is a wonderful energy booster and really helps you get your focus back on track.

Sitting all day long can also put you in a slump, so be sure to get up at least once an hour to keep you alert and focused. Don’t feel guilty from getting up from your desk. You’re not doing anyone any good sitting there with your eyes half closed. I have also found that a good way to jump start my day is to workout first thing in the morning. This helps me feel so productive and sets the tone for my entire day. Even if I only have 30 minutes in the morning, I do something! Exercising at lunchtime is another option. This breaks up your day and allows you to feel refreshed. You also feel like you took the time to do something for yourself. If you’re a stay at home mom, make after school time exercise time for you and the kids. Plan an outdoor activity or game in the playroom. This will not only keep them alert and focused for homework, it will help instill in them the positive benefits of exercise.

You should also pay attention to what you’re eating throughout the day to help boost your energy levels. Try not to eat too many foods that are high in sugar or loaded with preservatives. This can sometimes cause you to feel bloated and tired. Reach for a health snack like fruits and veggies or some lean protein. I really find this helps boost my brain power. I also like to snack on a handful of almonds-- just a little goes a long way in terms of bringing me back to a more alert state.

I also reach for a cup of green tea in the afternoon. I find that the health benefits and moderate caffeine amount helps boost my energy levels as well.
