Medical News Note: Ready to get healthy? Why not start small. As part of National Women’s Health Week from May 10 to May 16, the womenshealth.gov website offers a few simple suggestions to help women improve their physical and mental health.
With the theme “It’s Your Time,” the nationwide initiative encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. Consider focusing on one of the following challenges this week:
• Be more active: Strive for 2.5 hours of moderate exercise or 1.25 hours of more vigorous activity this week. That’s as little as 25 to 30 minutes a day for five days per week.
• Eat better meals: Choose nutritious snacks and meals; limit sweets and processed foods.
• Make an appointment: Call your physician for a check up; schedule a mammogram, if recommended.
• Avoid risk: Wear a seat belt and cut down on smoking, if you can’t quit altogether.
• Pay attention to your mental health: Take steps to manage stress and get plenty of sleep each night.
