Pain has many causes, but it's important to remember that persistent pain is almost always a warning sign of a problem and getting a correct diagnosis is key. Check it out!

I'm Dr. Connie Mariano, Chief Clinical Officer with EmpowHER, with what you can do about pain.

Pain has many causes, but it's important to remember that persistent pain is almost always a warning sign of a problem and getting a correct diagnosis is key.

For those suffering from persistent pain, traditional over the counter medicines, along with alternative therapies can help.

According to the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative medicine, spinal manipulation and acupuncture can be effective alternative pain therapies.

According to that same group, relaxation techniques and the herb, feverfew can help relieve pain from headaches.

And for those suffering from fibromyalgia, biofeedback, hypnosis, and massage can also effectively treat pain.

Finally, for chronic pain not associated with cancer, exercise has proven to be an effective pain fighter as well.

Recently, researchers at Queens University in Ontario put 6 chronic pain patients in a self-managed exercise program. In the end 4 of the 6 patients were able to cut down on their medical visits, and 2 were even able to return to work.

If you suffer from persistent pain, do your research and see your doctor to figure out the right plan for you.

I'm Dr. Connie Mariano with EmpowHER with what you can do about pain.
