There are a number of potential causes of a colon abscess.Abscesses can be caused by a bacterial infection.Conditions which can cause a colon abscess include appendicitis, bowel rupture, penetrating trauma, surgery, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.An abscess is a walled-off collection of bacteria and white blood cells - in other words, pus. The most common bacteria to cause them are found in the stomach and intestines. An abscess can be treated in several ways including antibiotics, drainage and surgery. Early treatment is important for long term healing.
In any case, following any surgery, you should seek medical attention immediately if you develop a fever, belly pain, nausea, vomiting, or other symptoms.
