Have you or someone you love been diagnosed with advanced or metastatic breast cancer (MBC), breast cancer that has spread from the breast to other parts of the body? If so, you’ll want to join us online for an informational webinar about MBC at 7 PM ET on Monday, October 19.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As part of our focus on providing educational resources to address the unique needs of women living with advanced breast cancer, we’ve invited MBC experts to join us online to share their specialized knowledge and answer your questions about MBC.

Since many people don’t fully understand the impact hormones can have on MBC, the focus of the webinar will be “Understanding the Hormone Connection on Your Metastatic Breast Cancer Journey,” to help patients and their loved ones better understand the importance of knowing your hormone status when living with MBC.

Breast cancer cells often have a strong hormone component, which can contribute to the growth and spread of the disease. The tumor’s hormone response is known as a cancer subtype, and knowing your tumor subtype is critical to working with your doctor to identify the appropriate course of treatment. It also may be important to re-biopsy the tumor periodically because it can change over time, which can impact the course of treatment.

Our metastatic breast cancer educational webinar will be hosted by Joyce O’Shaughnessy,MD, the Celebrating Women Endowed Chair in Breast Cancer Research at the Baylor Charles A Sammons Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. O’Shaughnessy is the principal investigator on two clinical trials working toward new treatments for metastatic breast cancer.

In addition, Amy Lessack will join the webinar to share her experience living with MBC and what she has learned about the importance of advocating for yourself and your health. Amy is on the Board of Directors for Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC), a national, nonprofit organization located outside Philadelphia whose mission is to connect people with trusted breast cancer information and a community of support.
