I always felt sorry for people who had to do things like drop acid to get high. I get high without even trying.I've never done acid, but some of my manic experiences seem like acid trips.

What I know of acid trips, I’ve gleaned partly from the movies and documentaries. When I was in junior high, all students saw a drug movie about acid. In the movie, the film makers distorted “reality” to depict what a trip might be like - lots of swirling colors and wavy boundaries. Friends have also told me about taking illegal drugs. The combination of watching movies and talking to friends is how I suppose my “trips” were similar to the average acid trip.

I remember being manic in those first eight sleepless nights and days and walking barefoot to a neighborhood park. In the park, I found a flower bed. I remember sitting down right in the middle of the flowers. I couldn't get enough of the vivid colored petals--the purples, the pinks, the oranges, the yellows. The colors seemed to be vibrating. Everything was alive. There was a lone bumble bee flying from flower to flower. I watched him for a number of minutes. I could clearly hear the bee buzz. Everything was heightened. My reality was so heightened. Just like an acid trip.

I remember being at peace in the flower bed. Luckily, no one came along and spotted me sitting there. Someone might have called the police.

No. I don't have to smoke pot or drop acid or inject heroin or take mushrooms. It's all there in my head; my chemicals do it all for me.
Poor normal folks have to go out and purchase their "trips." That gets expensive.

Mania is cheap.
