Yes, it very well could be just a headache or migraine. But if sudden head pain comes on quickly without the tell-tale headache or migraine symptoms such as aura, sound or smell sensitivity, nausea, etc., it could be an aneurysm.

According to an article posted on Yahoo! Health online, a brain aneurysm can cause brain damage within minutes, so it’s important to get help fast. Call 911 if you think you or someone you know is having an aneurysm.

Also, if you suffer from severe or frequent headaches or migraines, your body may be trying to tell you something. You may want to avoid any triggers you have noticed (wine can be a trigger), and give your doctor a call. Explain when you get the headaches or migraines and the pain level you put them at (1 being minor, and 10 being must call 911). They may be able to help with diagnostic tests and medication.
