Haralee,
I'm so glad to read your story! So many of the things we hear about assisted living or nursing homes is negative. It's refreshing to hear about a woman who decided to change her life, picked a new home, and moved in, and is happy with her decision. I think this is wonderful.

My mom is 81, and in very good health. But to her, "independence" means having your own home. We are very lucky that she's still active and healthy and can take care of herself and her home. (She sees assisted living as something "for old people," LOL. No hint as to when "old" begins in her mind.)

One of my favorite things you said was that the music was loud. I am part of the Baby Boomer generation, and my friends and I have always said that we already feel sorry for the nurses and caretakers that will be in our own assisted living homes down the road. We have always had loud music, and now we're all losing our hearing, so we need it even louder! It'll be like a rock concert as you walk down the hallways!

Seriously, I am so happy for you that your family went through this huge transition so easily. I know many people have difficulty with it and families aren't sure how to work their way through the complicated, multi-faceted decisions that it takes.

You said you talked about it for two years on and off with your mom. If you have tips for others as to how that went, I know we'd be glad to read it. And thanks again.
