Hi emmie,

Thank you for your question. Most pregnancy tests are pretty accurate. In most cases, they claim they are 99% accurate. There is always that chance though that they are incorrect. A blood test from your physician will answer that question, so unfortunately, you may have to wait until your two weeks late for your answer.

I recently had a friend that missed her period and the test came out positive but after a blood test, she was not pregnant. Thats the first time that I personally knew someone that had that outcome but anything is possible.

Pregnancy tests affirm that they can produce results from the first day of a missed period. Pregnancy tests measure the hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine. This hormone manifests itself at the time of conceiving.

As for your question about spotting, there may be several different reasons including the chances of being pregnant. Stress causes many different sensations in a woman's body and spotting can occur. Especially when you are fearful or excited about becoming pregnant, you may experience these symptoms.

Unfortunately, there is not a clear answer to your question. Yes, there is still a chance that the pregnancy tests are incorrect as seen in the example of my friend, but they are pretty accurate in most cases. Please let us know what the outcome of your test is with your physician or if your period starts before your appointment. We look forward to your response.

Best of luck!
