Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question! Being a mom of two, I can certainly tell you that the estimated date of conception is just that-- an estimate. If your doctor thought you conceived on the 25th, and you had sex on the 26th then your actual date of conception is the 26th :)

The reason why she wrote that you are 5 weeks along is because in pregnancy, weeks start being counted from BEFORE you're even pregnant. Weeks 1 & 2 are when your body is gearing up for pregnancy with ovulation & prepares to be fertilized. Week 3 would be around the time of the 25th-- when you had sex and fertilized the egg. Then all the magic begins to happen-- by week 5, your precious little one's heart and circulatory system are developing and you get that big fat positive pregnancy test. Most women will find out that they are pregnant at this point.

If you're still trying to figure out your menstrual cycle. Most women ovulate 14 days after the first day of their period. So, if your period started on April 11, then you were ovulating on or around April 26! (Make sense now, doesn't it?)

I hope this helps. To help guide you through your pregnancy, visit this site every now and then, there is some great information:

Wishing you and your precious baby the best!
Stay healthy,
