Unfortunately, birth control pills are highly effective only if you take them exactly as prescribed. The less consistent the pills are taken, the less effective the pills are. Since you had sex, there is a possibility of pregnancy but you were still partially protected by the pills you did take. One thing I did want to point out is that you do not need to double up on your pills every day--the only day you should be doubling up on is the day after you missed your pill. After that doubling up can actually be more harmful than it is helpful.
Continue taking your pills every day- if it helps, set up an alarm that will remind you to take your pill daily.
