Thank you for your question. When we first get our periods, sometimes it is very normal to have an irregular period and as the years pass by they become more and more regular. The problem with this is that sometimes they don't become regular due to an underlying condition such as PCOS, ovarian cyst, hormone imbalance, etc. At this point, if it has been 4 years since your first period and you're still only getting 2-3 periods a year you should go back to your doctor for further tests such as blood work, an ultrasound, etc.
