Guide

I can understand that seeing a specialist, like a dermatologist, can be very expensive if you are not covered by health insurance.

Basically, the causes of dry skin are either caused by external factors, such as soap, dry air or long, hot showers or baths, or internal factors, such as malnutrition, hypothyroidism, diabetes or skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis.

If you can rule out any external factors that might be causing your dry, scaly skin, then it must be caused by an internal factor. Do you have a primary care physician? That may be the person to consult.
