Guide

Menorrhagia is the medical term for prolonged and continuous menstrual bleeding.

This can be frightening, but you are doing the best thing- scheduling a physical examination with your doctor.

Your hormones control your menstrual cycle. During each cycle, your brain's hypothalamus and pituitary gland send hormone signals back and forth with your ovaries. These signals get the ovaries and uterus ready for a pregnancy.

The hormones estrogen and progesterone play the biggest roles in how the uterus changes during each cycle.

It is possible that a hormonal imbalance is responsible for your prolonged menstrual flow.

Your doctor can order blood tests and do a physical exam to make a diagnosis.

Best Wishes,

Maryann
