Hi Anonymous,

Our definition states that, "This is a surgery to close a woman's fallopian tubes. A fallopian tube runs from the ovary (where the eggs develop) to the uterus (womb). Closing this tube makes it so that a woman cannot get pregnant."

Closing the fallopian tubes no longer allows the egg to travel to the uterus. This means that the uterus still builds up mucous and blood that it will need to shed every month, as it always has.

Visit our Tubal Ligation page for more information about the procedure: https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/tubal-ligation-laparoscopic-surgery-0

If you're considering getting a Tubal Ligation, please read another ask for more information and opinions:https://www.empowher.com/community/share/decisions-decisions-choosing-either-tubal-ligation-or-vasectomy

Best,

Danielle.
