Have you changed your diet? Started eating heavier meals before bed?
Since you're seeing your doctor about your kidney next week, I would ask him about this as well. It sounds like there's just a pumping sensation, without pain. This could simply be your body pumping blood throughout your body. Sometimes I get the same feeling in my legs, especially if the circulation has been cut off a bit. It could also be a simple heart palpitation, which happens.
