It is understandable that this can be worrisome and on your mind. You are doing the right thing by seeing your physician.

You may have a lipoma, which is a slow-growing fatty lump. It is most often situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. It isn't cancer and is usually harmless. Treatment generally is not necessary, but if the lipoma causes discomfort or grows, it may need to be removed.

The exact cause of lipomas is unknown. Some people are prone to the development of them.
