Hello Anonymous,

A pregnancy test detects hCG levels.Human chorionic gonadotropin,hCG, is a hormone that is produced by the cells that form the placenta. Thus, it is only produced during pregnancy.

Levels of hCG can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception and in blood about 11 days following conception. The levels will double every 72 hours and reach peak in the first eight to 11 weeks of pregnancy.

In general, it is a good idea to wait until your period is late by at least one week. Use the first urine of the morning to test because the urine is the most concentrated at this time.

The first day of your period is the day that you start bleeding.
