Hi Anon,

Thank you for reaching out with your question to the EmpowHER community! Some women do have darker coloration on their butts while the rest of their skin is lighter. It is common to not have one complete color tone of skin. Some of use have pink blemishes, darker spots, etc. There are some ways to help lighten the dark spots on your butt if you would like the rest of your skin to be the same shade.

It is possible that you have hyper pigmentation that is darkening your buttocks. That is a common area to have skin color changes with this condition. Hyper pigmentation occurs when your body has too much melanin in it, and this causes patches of darker skin in some areas on the body.

The cause of darker skin patches could also be from stretch marks (which are not always caused by having babies). Stretch marks can also be caused by a growth spurt or weight loss, and the skin color change can show up on different areas of the body like the buttocks, stomach or arms.

If you really want to lighten these dark patches on your buttocks, I would recommend visiting a dermatologist, as they specialize in skin. Do not be embarrassed, because dermatologists specialize in skin and deal with cases like this all the time. You can also try using a prescription cream which will reduce melanin and the appearance of dark spots on the body. A dermatologist can help prescribe a good skin cream to help lighten the dark areas. There are also laser treatments that can help lighten dark patches.
