Hi Momma in Ashville,

Thank you for joining the EmpowHER community and sharing your question with the community!

Pregnancy is possible even though you have had your tubes tied. Here is some information on the effectiveness of a tubal ligation:

There is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This happens to about 5 per 1,000 women after 1 year. After a total of 10 years following tubal ligation, about 18 per 1,000 women will have become pregnant.

Pregnancy may occur if:

The tubes grow back together or a new passage forms (recanalization) that allows an egg to be fertilized by sperm or if the surgery was not done correctly.

With an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg implants somewhere outside the uterus.

An ectopic pregnancy would result in a positive pregnancy test for you, as the hormone that's produced by a pregnancy still gets into the blood stream.

Since you are a week late, taking a pregnancy test will definitely tell you for sure.

Tender breasts, nausea and extreme tiredness is definitely a sign of early pregnancy. Let me know if you take a pregnancy test.

Best,

Kristin
