Hi all. Thank you all for your postings. I also thank you in advance for responding to this. I am scheduled to have the her choice procedure on 6/26/09. I am 45 years old. My periods have become so heavy and so long that I have 2 week periods, and then 10-14 days without a period. My periods have become so heavy I change a super plus tampon every hour for 3-4 days. Needless to say, that is exhausting. During the short time I am not having my period, I have “PMS” symptoms. By that I mean mostly swollen, tender, breast; bloating; severe back pain; and joint pain. The back pain had gotten so bad I went to a spine surgeon. The good news is my back is not the problem.

I am adopted and don’t know my medical history, so I will not take hormones due to the increase risks for cancer. So, my options are her option or hysterectomy. I don’t think I am ready for the hysterectomy, so I am set for the her option procedure. My pre-procedure appointment is 6/23. I plan to ask my OB-GYN these questions, but I wanted to get some other input.

For those of you who have had the procedure, how does it affect the “PMS” symptoms? Typically, how long are you to not wear a tampon? Typically, how long are you to not have sex? How bad is the bloating? I mean do I need bigger pants? How long does it last?
