I am a teenager and my boyfriend and i had sex but the condom broke. We are not sure when. It has been 5 days since the sex and my periods having been running late... I have not a had my period yet and im getting really woried. I don't think i was ovulating cause it was four weeks after my last period. I have taken a pregnancy test but i got a negative result. Any advice on how to tell my mother that i might be pregnant or how to find out if I am?
Thanks Kirb

Kirb,
I would agree that if you had sex four weeks after your previous period, you probably were not ovulating. I would guess that you're just later than normal, possibly due to how the stress is affecting your hormones or possibly just due to the fact that you're irregular. I was irregular until my early 20s, including sometimes missing a period entirely.

Do you think your mom knows you are this serious about your boyfriend? I agree with Alysia, it sounds like you have a good relationship with her and it might be best to talk about this with her. At this point, I might wait until you know for sure that you are or are not pregnant. If you are pregnant, you will have to find a time where things are quiet and you can have a good talk -- and there just wouldn't be any way to have her not be disappointed, but she would also be the best one in the world to help support you and figure out what to do next. If you are not pregnant, you may still want to find that quiet time and talk to her about the fact that you are serious enough about this boyfriend to be sexually involved with him. Do you think you would be able to do that?

Hi, Kirb:

You said your periods have been running late, how late? Perhaps you're still a bit irregular, now, too. Read through our Ten facts to see if they'll help you answer your question. That your home pregnancy test came up negative is a good sign.

It sounds like you would be comfortable enough to discuss this important matter with your mother, and I think it would be a good idea to raise your concern with her.
