According to a new study in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, scientist have found some combination of genetics, dust, food and baby wipes affects the skin’s ability to fight off food allergens. Joan Cook-Mills who is the lead author of the study, explains that baby wipes alter an infant’s skin absorbency by leaving soap on their skin. “They may not be eating food allergens as a newborn, but they are getting them on their skin.”
In the same study she mentions a solution. “Reduce baby's skin exposure to the food allergens by washing your hands before handling the baby. Limit use of infant wipes that leave soap on the skin. Rinse soap off with water like we used to do years ago.”
