Q:

Are the heart flutters I felt dangerous?

About three years ago I had a panic attack and went to the ER fearing a heart attack. After a chest xray and EKG I was told I had a panic attack. Just to be sure I saw a cardilogist and had a number of EKG's, stress test, blood work, ekg, and a holter moniter. He told me to relax i had a very healthy heart. Well I continue to fear heart problems and check my pulse a lot. The fear has never left me. Days ago after eating I felt a flutter in my heart for a few seconds and started worrying again. No other symptoms or pain. Is that feeling normal? Or do I need more testing?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Since the fluttering sensation lasted only a few seconds and has not reoccurred, I don't think you need to worry.

Continue to eat a well-balanced, heart healthy diet. Exercise regularly. Visit your physician for an annual physical exam and blood tests to check cholesterol levels.

If you experience an irregular pulse, feel any pressure or pain in your neck or chest that radiates to your arms or experience shortness of breath, then seek medical attention immediately.
