Are stye's contagious

Thank you for writing.

People actually disagree on whether stye's are contagious. Most experts believe they are not but others believe that if a person touches their eye and then touches another person's hand who then touches their own eye - transference of whatever (usually bacteria) caused the stye can occur. This is admittedly a stretch.
