I have taken pantoprazole for a couple years, after taking omeprazole for a couple years. Now doctor has me trying Zantac. Not working well. Are Tums safe to take while taking Zantac? And is it safe to take several Tums a day if trying to get off Zantac?

Hello and thank you for sharing your question.

Taking tums while on Zantac is not an issue.

I would like to provide some information on the benefits of focusing on a healthy diet to prevent heart burn and ulcers etc.  Most of the time, the problems that Zantac helps are caused by a poor diet.

To also help reduce heart burn try avoiding: dairy, red meat, processed (fast) foods, and breads.  The body most be alkaline in order to have a health gut.  Foods that alkaline the body mainly include fruits and vegetables.  Zantac attempts to alkaline to body by balancing to acidity of the stomach.  But eating the right foods can do the same thing.
