So I tested positive for HSV 2 awhile back and I’m fully aware of my condition but I haven’t found the right time to tell my parents. I go to a neurologist and she ordered a CBC includes diff/ plt and a complete metabolic panel. Will the HSV antibodies be found during this process or is that something they’d have to specifically order/ look for ?

Thank you for writing. Genital herpes is one of the most common STIs and there is no cure but with medication and a healthy lifestyle, outbreaks can be minimal. Some people can go years with an outbreak. Stress is a part of normal life but maintaining it in a healthy way can really help stave off an outbreak.
A CBC is a general blood panel test done to evaluate overall health. Various conditions are looked for including leukemia, iron, anemia, infections and several others. A detailed CBC panel can show the virus but generally only if it is specifically looked for. However, doctors and labs vary so we can't say if it will show up in your test. Since you know you have it, it may not be asked for.
I'm not sure why you have to tell your parents why you have this infection - there is no need to tell anyone other than a sexual partner or a health care provider.

The doctor who ordered it was a neurologist and I’d be getting the lab work done at quest diagnostics. If you have any insight on the lab as to if it would show in the test. I don’t believe my neurologists knows that I’m aware that I have it because of the fact that my PCP and neurologist doctor are on two completely different spectrums. However, I spoke to my PCP and she said that unless it is specifically ordered for then it wouldn’t be something to worry over. I’m just concerned on the off chance that the lab may find it and may decided to report it.

We cannot speak for individual labs but my best educated guess would be that there will be no test done for herpes if an STI panel is not specified. When you look at the paperwork on a blood panel order, there are literally a hundred or more options to test for. The person ordering the panel ticks off each individual condition to look for. Herpes is tested for due to pregnancy and a few other conditions (in case of an outbreak) but is not tested for on a general health panel.
