Has anyone had any experiences with the California Cryobank? Myself and my partner are looking to home inseminate using donor sperm. Is this clinic legitimate. Are all their claims regarding extensive donor testing true?

I was actually a donor here. I was really impressed with the place. Their testing was very extensive, but more importantly, because of where they are located (next to Stanford, Harvard, etc.) I was always impressed with the quality of donors that I'd meet there.

According to the New York Times, "California Cryobank, based in Los Angeles, is among the largest sperm banks in the country."

It looks like they are legit, as the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has them listed within their sperm bank resources: http://www.hrc.org/issues/2497.htm

It would still be important to follow up with them, ask the important questions, and call a few regulating industries to ensure that they continue good business practices. Some suggestions are below.

From their very own website, they have a list of questions and information you should research before making a decision about using a sperm bank: http://www.cryobank.com/Learning-Center/Sperm-Banking-101/Selecting-a-Sperm-Bank/

In the state of California, all tissue banks operating in California must have a current and valid tissue bank license issued by the Department of Health Services. (CA Health & Safety Code §1635.1). You would probably want to contact the DHS to inquire about this specific business.

Here is another helpful resource: The American Fertility Association (one link discusses the donor egg cycle).

I hope this helps! We would love to hear an update from you!
