Q:

Can a doctor refuse to write a new prescription if yours runs out. I haven't been able to pay my doctor what they want. Says I have to see doctor before he will give me new script on thyroid medication. I do not have the money and i will be out of meds

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Some doctors do requite an occasional check up before writing more prescriptions but we cannot know what his reasons are. If you have no thyroid, then medication is absolutely necessary. Ask your doctor why a visit is required first. Also, contact the manufacturer that makes your medication. They may offer free or low-cost medications for those in financial distress. I am sorry about the death of your husband.
Best,
Susan
