I have had brittle nails. tired all the time, weight gain and was wondering if this could be thyroid or not. I have had blood test done and nothing shows up, what should I do next?

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for your question!

Do you take a daily vitamin? Exercise? Sometimes we confuse brittle nails, dull hair, and lack of motivation for a bigger problem such as a thyroid condition or something else. If you live a sedentary lifestyle, even if you're completely healthy you will find it extremely hard to get up and get moving. A well-balanced diet and a multi-vitamin can help restore the health in your hair and nails.

However, there is a possibility that your thyroid might still be involved. Just because your levels are in a normal range, doesn't say much. If your hormone levels at in a high normal, then you may have symptoms of hypothyroidism because, although "normal", it is almost out of range. Here is a more detailed explanation of what I am talking about in this post from earlier: https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/i-am-57yrs-old-i-currently-take-synthroid-75mcg-hypothyroidism-my-labs-came-back-recen

Best of luck!
