Changing pill brand mid-pack?

I live in the UK. i'm taking millinette but due to side effects have been given gederal.
i'm only 4 pills into a new pack of millinette and dont want to take it for another 18 days, so can i just take the 5th pill essentially, from gederal, and carry on like that, so it's like 4 days millinette and 18 gederal, and then obviously throw all the left overs away.
can you do that? it that safe to do because i've been told it is and it isnt, also would i still be protected if i do that?
