in taking a stool sample before my colonoscopy, is it ok to eat a red rare steak the day before? My smear sample showed traces of blood in stool, and it may be due to diet. So now they have me lined up for the big colon explorations.... Advise?

You will find this interesting: MedlinePlus: Bloody or tarry stool", it states, "Blood in the stool may come from anywhere along your digestive tract, from mouth to anus."

I believe what your doctor meant by the cause could be from your diet is more than what you eat one day, but rather, if you have any vitamin or mineral deficiencies (such as iron, for example) that has occurred over a long period of time from your overall lifestyle and diet.

I am not sure that eating any type of rare red meat is the safest choice, regardless of health condition.
