Could I be pregnant?

I have been working night shifts for 6 months now, I am on birth control but I have not been taking the pills like I should. I don't have regular periods. When I forget to take my pills I start bleeding. Well the last three weeks at work have been stressful and I know I didn't take my pills for 3 days. Me and my husband had unprotected sex, I can't exactly remember the last time I had a period but I know that around May 20th I did bleed and it lasted 2 days. Now I feel that my breast are really sore and heavy, I am cramping but not bleeding. I can't say I'm late on my period because I don't know right now when it would be that I would start. I'm not nauseated , my tiredness I associate with my work schedule. Could I be pregnant?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Because you take your birth control pills inconsistently and have had unprotected sex, there is a possibility that you could be pregnant.

However, you had vaginal bleeding around May 20, though it only lasted for two days. Did you have unprotected sex after that?

I suggest that you make an appointment with your gynecologist or visit a women's health clinic, such as Planned Parenthood. Have a blood pregnancy test. That is the only way to determine if you are pregnant.

During that appointment, discuss other birth control options, like the Depo- Provera injection, that may be easier for you than remembering to take a daily birth control pill.
