I've been taking birth control pills for almost a year now without complications. I used to have a very long, heavy (and painful) flow before I was on them, but now I only get very light periods that only last for a few days. Some months, I don't get them at all. However, I got my period 3 days early, and have had a heavy and uncomfortable flow for almost a week. Is there anything that I can do to stop my period this cycle?

Hi Anonymous and thanks for bringing your concerns to EmpowHER.
Now that your period has started there really isn't anything you can do to make it stop. You may want to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist, however, to discuss the changes that you've had this month and to see if there might be another type of birth control pill that would work better for you. In terms of the pill's effectiveness, if you've taken it as directed there should be no impact in efficacy even though your period came earlier than expected.
Hope that helps,
Pam
