My cholesterol numbers are high. I don't want to be on statins. I have made life changes in diet and exercise. My doctor told me that Red Rice Yeast will lower my cholesterol. When Googled articles about it, most say that it has the same effect as statins on the liver.
Has anyone have experience with this?

Thanks Daisy, I wouldn't take an isolated supplement unless I ran it by my doctor. You have certainly given me a clearer knowledge about what RRY is. My primary doctor suggested it. I purchased it, but was hesitant to take it. My cardiologist said it was ok, but didn't know about it. So there it sits on my counter, unopened. Your advice helped me a lot

It has been used by the Chinese for many centuries as a food preservative, food colorant (it is responsible for the red color of Peking duck), spice, and an ingredient in rice wine. Red yeast rice continues to be a dietary staple in China, Japan, and Asian communities in the United States. However, in the United States it is no longer legal to sell supplements of red yeast rice that contain more than trace amounts of cholesterol lowering substances. Statin drugs are associated with muscle and kidney injury when used alone or combined with other medications. You should talk to your doctor on other options to be used, in reducing your cholesterol.
