Q:

Extreme Rectal bleeding

I am 17 years old, and I experience a lot of rectal bleeding as if I am on my period. It hurts after I have a bowel movement, and I begin to hemmorage rectally. Every single time. It feels as if I am being cut inside my rectum. I do not participate in Anal sex, either. I have had this issue for a little over a year.
What could be the problem, and how could I resolve this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Guide

Hi,
It is quite possible that you have hemorrhoids, which are painful, swollen veins in the lower portion of the rectum or anus. The most common cause is straining during bowel movements. Are you often constipated? If so, you could use over-the-counter stool softeners, add more fiber to your diet and drink more water--all ways to make the stool softer and reduce straining during a bowel movement. If this does not help, you may need to make an appointment with your physician. I am concerned about how much blood you may be losing. Losing a lot of blood leads to anemia. You may need an appointment with your doctor just to have your red blood cell count checked,
