Genital Warts and HPV

About 2 months ago I discovered that I had genital warts. I went to the gynocologist and he performed a routine Pap smear. My results from the Pap smear came back normal. I have been receiving TCA treatments for my gential warts, and everything seems to be clearing up. My question is, since my Pap smear was normal does that mean I have the HPV virus? I read online and talked with my doctor, and he reassured me that with time the virus will go away on its own. How long does the virus stay in the body until is goes away? I'm very nervous and scared about this all.

Thank you so much!!!! These past couple of months have been really challenging for me. I haven't had anyone to talk to about this. I've been really angry, upset, and disappointed in myself. I kinda feel like I've brought this on myself. I found this website and it has been a big help for me.

Hi kboyd,

It is true what your doctor said that sometimes the HPV will go away on its own but since you have the virus, it can always come back. There is not really a time frame to follow for yourself you must always follow up with your physician to monitor your situation.

I hope this helps and good luck.
