The hair on the right side of my head stopped growing about a year ago, it is very thin and I went to a dermatologist and he said my scalp and hair are healthy. What would cause just the right side of my hair to stop I do have PCOS

Hi KimJack,

Thanks for your question!
PCOS can cause androgenic alopecia, which usually starts at the top of both temples. Have you been to another dermatologist? Perhaps a second opinion wouldn't hurt considering that even if the PCOS was causing this, a dermatologist would pick up on the alopecia.

Is the hair on the right side of your head visibly thinner than the left? Is one side visibly shorter?

Aside from PCOS, have you had any trauma to that side of your head or any medications that could be causing the hair loss?

Hi Rosa, I sent you a reply back on the 23rd but I hit save and I don't know what happened to it!

Yes the hair is visibly shorter and thinner on the right side of my head, I waited 9 months to cut my hair and it was 2 inches longer on the left.

I am on Metformin for PCOS, I got pregnant when I was 40, had a great pregnancy and was back in my clothes by my 6 week check up. I stopped breastfeeding in 2007 and instantly started gaining weight, the doctors started testing me and said I had PCOS and started Metformin. I stopped gaining after 80 pounds but have not lost either. I watch my diet, no take out, no pop, no candy, I never had a problem with weight before, no other trauma.

Thank You again
