I couldn't agree with you more!! I had mine 2 yrs ago. I started out as a teenager with horrible cramps every month. After having my kids I had my tubes tied and the cramps got worse. I just coped with it for years and years until it started getting so bad I needed to go to er. I had 2 grapefruit sized fibroid tumours, endometriosis and both of my tubes were swollen and full of fluid. My only option was the hysterectomy. I had everything removed but ovaries cuz they are still healthy. Hope they stay that way too!! Having the hysterectomy was the best decision of my life. A women who has never had to deal with this type of pain couldn't possibly understand!!!

OMG I remember my last visit, it was so embarrassing and it was a woman Dr! She said I smelled really bad. Thanks a lot! And my husband quit having sex with me and that was 20 yrs ago! And has never had the guts to tell me why! I hated him for so long. But now at 61 I've learned life isn't all about sex, it's being best friends and laughter. But it hurt me so much that I would NEVER ever get into another relationship!! I honestly can't smell it. My smeller might be off. I just use B.O.B. To have Orgasms. I'm too dry to have vaginal ones but the nub still works!!

norawcoffey's post is excellent. I highly recomment a visit to the non-profit site, hersfoundation.org
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing so.
I love the comment "the sweet smell of an aroused vagina."
As previously noted, the uterine cervix/vagina secretions are important for lubrication, infection control, and the admininstration of hormones and other critical substances.
However, there is another function of these secretions that "the sweet smell of an aroused vagina" comment hints at: pheromones.
Turns out, the uterine cervix/vaginal secretions contain not just "the female scent," but, pheromones, too. Pheromones play an important role in not just how we view ourselves, but, in how the world views us. Such a loss is hard to define...harder still to articulate.
If there is one message that I could convey to women, it would be to place great value on these organs...remaining "intact" is far more important than most know.

Some women such as myself have no choice but to have these organs removed!!! My quality of life was horrible because about a week and a half of every month I was in bed with a heating pad hurting very bad!! I had endometriosis, 2 grapefruit sized fibroids and terribly inflamed tubes. The best thing I have ever done was have my hysterectomy. Everything is still the same except no longer do I have the pain!! All the nasty smells from the monthly cycle are gone. All of the other vaginas fluids are still there but without the smell. My hubby is very happy!!!!

I have read all these comments and find it very sad how many of them seem to blame the woman for having this surgery in the first place. I sought this site to find an answer to a very sensitive issue and I feel worse. I think many of you have lost sight that there are a great many women who MUST have a hysterectomy; it's a life or death surgery. I guess I could have died with my cancer, but instead chose surgery. Now, I would like help with coping with the after effects. Stop the "you should remain intact" speech...for most of us staying "intact" meant a death sentence. As I said, this is a sensitive subject, one I have not even discussed with my doctor because I've been confused and embarrassed thinking it was just my imagination. The emotional and psychological pain before and after this surgery in life long. So please be sensitive to those who really had no choice about this surgery.

Exactly! I'm sick to death of reading the "don't do it" speech. HELLO!! EVERYONE HERE HAS ALREADY HAD A HYSTERECTOMY. Who are they talking to? What is their goal? Who do those high horsed biddies think they are?? Shut your pie hole and gtfo if all your gonna do is say how unnecessary it is. I'm grateful and so happy to have had my hysterectomy.

Please note, people who have not yet had a hysterectomy, do find sites and comments like these. I know when I developed hemorrhoids post-hyst, I went to sites of people who had hemorrhoids as I figured they would be more knowledgeable than me (given it was my first experience with them) and I found people who had them for years, people who had surgery for them, people positing about issues after surgery, etc. This was helpful for me as it allowed me to decide how I wanted to proceed.

I've read the comments on this blog and no one is blaming any woman for having the surgery, that would be absurd, but I do see woman trying desperately to spare other women the real life-long pain that comes after this surgery for many women. The reason you haven't gotten the solutions/suggestions you are looking for is because there are none.

For me I take baking soda baths (no soap), and use a combination of coconut oil/baking soda for deodorant. I also take a quality probiotic - but these actions are merely stop gap measures for a body that can no longer perform as expected and not a solution.

The issues after surgery have to do with no longer having the normal female functions and integrity in all it's ebb and flows and balancing acts.

I agree with you! I was directed to HERS by way of an adenomyosis website and felt the same way you do? Not everything is black or white and although some are convinced it is less of a bother to just remove your feminine organs some of us are not so cavalier about it and have to. I happened to have several issues that were causing constant pain, bleeding and hospitalization and morphine was the only thing that made the pain cease. So, it would be nice to hear others who may have a similar concern, but I guess calling my doctor would be best!

Trust me, nobody that has been through this surgery blames any woman for having it as we understand that any blame goes with the medical community. I believe what some women are trying to emphasize is that even in the case where a woman believes "cancer" is involved, she should proceed with caution. There are many women where cancer is merely suggested, there are many women who are directly told they have cancer, but no objective medical testing has been completed. Talk to women who have filed court cases and discover during the proceeding the only way to definitively confirm cancer and how it doesn't matter what they believed, as the jury will say you should have known. Women who have commented are not trying to give you the "you should remain intact" speech as it is apparently too late, but are using this dicussion as an opportunity to alert other women. An alert that is mostly never heard or dismissed by the vast majority of women who move forward with surgery. After surgery, many women wonder why no one alerted them to the tragic consequences, why is it not being talked about, and what can they do now so that no one else goes into surgery unknowingly.

See norawcoffey's post on how to manage this annoyance.
