Hi! I was hoping someone could help me out with a problem. My last known period started november 4 and it is now december 20/21 and I have yet to have a period.

I know this is a very long time but I need help ruling out a missed period because of stress or pregnancy. See at the end of October, my dad had a very bad accident that stressed my family out to no end. Follow that up with school stress and a lot of traveling. Now at the beginning of December my grandfather fell and broke his hip. He is 91 so you see my concern. Ontop of more traveling, rushed schedules, and finals. Does anyone think this would/could delay my period?

I had unprotected sex once, maybe twice (sorry its hard to remember) on November 18-19 with my partner. Other than that i didnt have sex again until December 2nd, around when my period was suppose to start. I do not have any signs of being pregnant but I am stressing out over this even more. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

Christine,
Thanks for the advice! We do normally use protection and in all honesty I cannot remember if we did or not. My partner says we did but the lack of a period does seem to suggest otherwise. I am going to take an hpt asap when I have time to be away from my family from the holidays. I am thinking that all the things ive encountered for a few months has caused a disruptance in my cycle but a hpt would be reassuring. I was calculating it out and if I was pregnate I would be starting my 7th week around tomorrow. However, I have no symptoms including morning sickness. Is this possible? Thanks!!

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. The surest way to know, is to take a pregnancy test, or call your doctor or clinic to request one. I know it may be scary, but compare it to how scary is it questioning? Let us know what you find out.
And in answer to your question, yes, stress definitely can have an affect on your period. Other things that can affect it include sickness, nutrition habits, and any medications you may be taking. Do you and your partner not use any protection when you have sex? It is a very easy remedy to this type of stress, to start using birth control (maybe even two methods, such as condoms and withdrawal, or birth control pills and withdrawal). I understand you have been under other stress. I'm sorry for your family's recent troubles. Let go of what isn't in your control, and do what you can to EmpowHER yourself so you can advocate for your health.
