Q:

Hormone problems at age 20?

I'm 20 years old and I am fairly healthy. I eat right and exercise and so on. I have been going to my doctors now for quite some time and clearly they are sick of me. I wasn't feeling right and having these attacks if that's what you want to call them. They would last about 2 weeks or so and I would almost be feeling as if "I weren't here". I was not feeling myself at all and it's like my body was here but my mind wasn't and it was really scary for me. I do have a past of anxiety so the doctors put me on high dosages of anxiety pills but even still I have these "attacks". They always seem to fall around the time of my menstral cycle. It's hard to explain all that I feel during them. It's like I can't concentrate on anything as well. Would this have anything to do with my hormone regulation?

Guide

Your "attacks" sound like something that needs to be evaluated with a psychological exam. Are you under a lot of stress? Have there been difficult situations in your life (beyond the ordinary trials and tribulation)?

Chronic stress results in the constant release of the stress hormone, cortisol. This could be causing the attacks, which sound like a detachment experience. I am not an expert on psychological conditions. This is just a suggestion. Maybe you need to be evaluated by a psychologist rather than an internist.
