I would prefer an MBI exam but I dont know where to start. any advise? I am located in Cincinnati. I can get to Mayo relatively easy if need be. I would rather not have tamoxifen treatments since I am so close to menopause.

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer.
Atypical Breast Cells do not necessarily mean you have cancer-- Many factors can make normal cells appear atypical, including inflammation and infection. Have you been closely followed up with and had a biopsy done?

It seems as though you would benefit from a Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) exam. If you have access to Mayo Clinic, whose researchers developed the tool, then you can certainly ask your doctor for a referral. Even if you don't get the referral, I'm sure Mayo Clinic may think you're a good candidate considering your previous history.

Please keep us posted,

Rosa
