Q:

I am constantly moody, argumentative, irritable and bossy...but I am on antidepressants

This past year I have been on multiple kinds of antidepressants. Some worked slightly better than others but in the end I felt that Zoloft worked the best. My boyfriend and I left the US 2 months ago on a backpacking trip and in the beginning I ran out of medication and got some from a pharmacy in Spain...since then I have been a complete moody, irritable, awful person. I sleep fine, I eat much more healthy foods than at home, but my attitude is horrible. I can't stand the person I am and I am constantly crying and stressed about things that I cannot control...which is exactly how I was before I was taking medication. Could it be possible that my medication from Spain just isn't working as effectively as the ones from the US? My boyfriend has just about had it with me and I am very afraid that I have damaged our relationship past fixing.

Hi Anonymous,
The changes in your medication can certainly be causing the mood swings and bad attitude. As you mentioned, you have been through many different medications and this is very common with anti-depressants to find the right fit for you. Obviously, what you were prescribed is not the right fit for you.

I would try to explain to your boyfriend what you are going through, if he loves you he will understand. What is your diagnosis? Depression, anxiety? When do you return to the US?

Thanks for the additional information.
