I have had so many side effects from ciprofloxacin and metronidazole (Flagyl), I went to the ER. CT scan confirmed diagnosis, but they ignored my thoughts that the meds were making me sicker and told me to coninue them for the full 10 days, despite debilitating nausea, cramps, and diarrhea worse than I had at the beginning. Online, I see the meds can be RX'd for 7-10 days. Am I OK to stop them now? What is the experience of others with this diagnosis?

I have recently been diagnosed with my second bout of diverticulitis in 10 months. The BEST medication to help MY abdominal spasms and cramping is Bentyl! Its amazing! Also, I maintain a CLEAR LIQUID DIET for AT LEAST 3-5 days. The clear liquid diet helps to not further irritate my already inflamed intestines and colon. I have, however, been having bloody diarrhea since day one. I've been taking the meds for about 3 days so far. The bloody diarrhea and serious bloating are my only side effects so far. Ask your Dr about Bentyl for the stomach cramps. It really helps ME! I hope everyone feels better soon!

Bentyl just helped me too. I was ER last night (course, I'm now on Cipro and Flagyl) and took only one (10 mg) of the 20 the dr. prescribed, to take while I was there. It certainly did help. I'm sure it would have helped even more, but I'm so leery of meds, I usually opt for the lower dose to start. But with the antibios, I have to just take as prescribed. I'm afraid not to, as I don't want that gut monster to come back. tho from all I've read, it prob. will sooner or later. I'm so think, I don't want to go liquid diet, to eating regular but chewing longer, eating a bit less. Thank you.

I have pouchitis, I was prescribed flagyl and cipro, my side effects are dizziness, I feel like I'm walking like I am drunk, I have trouble with my speech sometimes, feeling like I can't get my words out that I am thinking. I have constipation, but I have no colon, so my side effects may be different than others. I can't wait until I am done taking them, it's hard to work.

I was on Cipro and Flagyl for 10 days for colitis. I have had dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, pain, headache, muscle tremors, nightmares from hell that are so real I can barely tell they are dreams, and extreme paranoia. None of the paranoia or nightmares existed before this round of meds. Anyone else experience this??

Absolutely!!! Nightmares have been a big part of my symptoms during treatment...along with all the other hellish side effects

Absolutely on the paranoia. I'm not driving (dizziness and disorientation) or seeing anyone (paranoia) until the medication ends. I can hardly wait. The Flagyl makes me loopy, suspicious and paranoid.

I was diognosed with diverticulitis ... I'm feeling alittle better sometimes and other times I feel horrible..diarrhea started today.. These 2 drugs are very difficult to deal with... The bloating in my lower tummy is the worst... But knowing I have infection in my body.. I'd rather deal with these side affects of these drugs and get rid of the infection.. I've seen first hand what this sickness can do to you... Hope everyone feels better soon

OMG I had the same treatment for my diverticulitis. I seriously thought i would die from these meds. I was literally on the couch, unable to walk due to dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and a horrible taste in my mouth for the entire 10 days. It was so much worse then the diverticulitis, I mean seriously I have never felt so horrible in my entire life!

I had diverticulitis in Dec. then again in April. Had 3 Catscans with dye. Had Colonoscopy on June 8, 2016 had 3 polyps removed one precancerous and was told I had a little colitis on the right side. On June 19th I got so sick and had such doubling over of pain in far left lower side and across back with nausea have been ill ever since. I was in 2 ERS did not find out anything GI Dr. has no explanation I go to talk to a surgeon on Monday. God Bless all who are plagued with this and no one really knows what to do. I am allergic to Cipro so I take Keflex and Flagyl...not so many side effects for me. Right now I am on nothing except nausea pills and tramadol which I hate going back on bentyl.
