i was diagnosed with endometrial cancer abt a month ago. i dont any insurance and dont qualify for government healthcare assistance although i do get food stamps and work parttime and live below the poverty level. i live in a camper at a campground, live week by week with what little money i do make. my husband hasnt been able to work for several years due to the lack of being able to find a job since he got laid off several yrs ago. i understand endometrial cancer is a very slow progressing cancer, but its still cancer, right? i was told by a gynocologist that if i had a total hysterectomy she could guarantee 99% that the cancer would be removed. but i have to have a way to pay for the surgery. that i dont have. they say the key to curing a cancer is early detection, that doesnt help if you dont have insurance though. i personally would have rather not known i have cancer than have to live knowing i have it and do anything abt it. so if anyone knows of any info that can help pls respond to this ad.

I feel very helpless after reading your story. Your situation underscores the plight of some many people in our country who are uninsured, unemployed and living day by day.
Have you sought help through the social services department in the area where you live? Would the surgeon accept a small amount of payment over a period of time? Does the American Cancer Society offer financial assistance? Have you looked into that organization?

maryann, thanks for the info. i have tried social services, but they said i do not qualify for tenncare, which is tennessees version of medicaid (I live in tennessee) they said to qualify you have to be pregnant, have cervical cancer or breast cancer. i fall between the cracks since i have endometrial cancer. i havent asked the surgeon seeing how she never would answer my phone calls after she found out i couldnt get tenncare. i havent tried the american cancer society. i honestly feel like just giving up at this point. i have alot of support from the people i work with, that keeps me going everyday. thanks agn for answering to my post : )
