Hi Jaya,
Thank you for your question, hypothyroidism is a condition which decreases the function of your thyroid and weight gain is expected. Most of the extra weight gain is due to accumulation of salt and water. You can expect a weight increase of 5-10 pounds. It really depends on the severity of your disease though and you should follow up with your physician since they can monitor your diet. Here is a link for you that I found that provides some great information for you http://www.thyroid.org/patients/brochures/Thyroid_and_Weight.pdf.
Here is another link that offers suggestions from the Mayo Clinic and provides a hypothyroidism diet http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hypothyroidism-diet/AN01478.
Let me know if this information helps you.
Good luck,
